Hobbies



Hobbies and interest. 



Objectives: - to improve pupils’ skills in speaking, listening;
-         to enrich pupils’ vocabulary;
-         to expend speaking skills of pupils through methods of interactive activity (pair work, group work, free discussion);
-         to cultivate cooperative activity.
Equipment: books, cards with tests, pictures, notebook with CD and DVD films.
Procedure.
I. Introduction.
Greeting and Aim.
T: Good morning! Today we are going to speak about how you spend your free time, what you like doing and how you rest. We’ll speak about your hobbies and pastime. You’ll learn some new words and practice them in your speech.
II. Main part of our lesson.
1.    Speech drill.
T: As the topic of our lesson is “Hobby”, let’s read its definition. They say “Different people have different hobbies. Tastes differ”. Is it true or false? Do you agree with these words? What do you like to do?
P: I like to read books.
Let’s memorize the poem: We like to read, we like to play,
                                           We like to study every day.
                                           We like to jump, we like to run,
                                           We like to draw and it is fun!
     2. Check on Homework.
     T: Your homework was make speak about hobbies.      
          (pupils speak about hobbies).
T: Look at the blackboard. There are cards with tests here. Read and guess  
          what hobby it is.
1.    Some people like to dance. Sometimes they go to special clubs and dance at home. They like to go to discos. Dancing.
2.    People like to go to the stadium or to the sports ground. They can play football or hockey, swim or run. Sport.
3.    People like to sing songs. Sometimes they go to the music school. They like to listen to song and sing them. Singing.
4.    People like to collect some things, for example coins, stamps, magazines. Collecting things.
5.    I know some people who like to watch different kinds of films on TV. Watching TV.
        3. Speech exercise.
       T: Now answer my questions.
-         What do you usually do in your free time?
-         Are you fond of music?
-         What are you interested in?
-         What do you like to do? Why?
-         Do you like to read ?
-         What poem do you know about reading?
             Reading is the best of all

             That opens many doors in front of me!
       4. Pair work.
    T: Take turns to ask your friend about his/her hobbies.

         5. Writing. Grammar.            
                                                   Present Simple Tense.        

  The affirmative form.         The interrogative form.        The negative form.

      T: Put these sentences in the Present Simple Tense (affirmative, interrogative and negative forms).
1.    The children (play) volleyball.

       6. Relaxation.
          We can jump, we can swim,

      7. Phonetic drill.
 T: We learn new words. Look at the blackboard.
Camera, cartoon, coin, stamp, to collect, be fond of, be interested in, take pictures (photos).
     8. Reading. Group work.
      T: Read and name the boys’ unusual hobbies.
       I am Oleh Kryvoshapko. And I am at our School Hobby Fair today. We can learn a lot about likes and interests of our schoolchildren here. The pupil of the 5th form. Petro Doroshenko, has got an unusual collection. He collects rocks. “Rocks are beautiful,” says Petro. “Some of them have pretty colours. My smallest rock is the most interesting. It is from the Pacific Ocean.
Borys Ivanchuk, the pupil of the 8th form, has an interesting hobby: cartoon
animation. His new cartoon is called Pencil Man. “Making Pencil Man is a lot
of work,” he says. “The cartoon has got 2000 drawings. Each one is just a little
different. I use my camera to take a picture of each drawing. In the film the
pictures move very quickly. That’s why Pencil Man looks like he is moving”.
Borys is going to show his Pencil Man at school on Tuesday at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Don’t miss the show!
    T: Say if the sentences are true or false.

      11. Role play. Dialogical activity.
   T: Let’s ask each other what you are fond of.

        - What are you fond of?
        - I am fond of…
        - Why?
        - It is…
12. Jumbled letters.
T: Look on the blackboard and guess what hobbies are hidden here.

III. Summarizing.
T: You’ve worked very well today and you’ll get good marks. Now you see that many people have different hobbies. They like to spend their free time in various ways and they can have some hobbies at a time. For some people some hobbies can be interesting and enjoyable, for the others they may seem dull and boring. We can say here that tastes differ. Thank you for the lesson. See you soon.
